Valleys of green and vanished hamlets
From Bedepuszta a path leads east through the forest to the village of Kisbárkány in an adjoining valley. This small village is located 2 km away in a narrow valley. Between Bedepuszta and Kisbárkány there is a natural spring with delicious water. The village has little more to offer than a small shop and an authentic local pub. The surroundings in all other directions around Bedepuszta consist of hilly landscapes with alternating forestry, nature and traces of lost villages. The landscape is intersected with sand and clay paths, some of which lead to the Unesco World Heritage Site Hollókö, a picturesque village with a famous castle, various craft shops and workshops. Several paths lead to this village. South of Bedepuszta the extinct volcanoes of the Eastern Cserhát rise high, a forested low mountain range and nature reserve.
The entire area is part of a Geopark. Paths have been laid out at various locations with explanations about geological features, such as fossil mussel beds and parts of the prehistoric ocean bed. There are numerous paths over the ridges and through the oak forests around the valley. The area is therefore a paradise for hikers and mountain bikers.
