Enjoy the seasons

Hiking and cycling holidays

Hiking, cycling, relaxing in the wellness, or tasting special wines on the terrace of the Yonderbar? In spring and autumn life in Bedepuszta is at it’s best.

HIKING

From Bedepuszta you can follow beautiful tracks in all directions. Several of these walks lead to interesting destinations. Most of them only via dirt roads that lead through forests and vales. In the picturesque village of Hollókö for instance, there are four dining options including a very good bistro. In the woods, 4 miles away is a pub serving Guinness and Czech beer from tap and in other directions you can find a Buddhist temple, the Bean Soup Inn and a famous monastery with eatery.
The valley of Bedepuszta itself is also a great place to enjoy smaller hikes from one panoramic view into another. The fun starts right at your doorstep.
Routes are plotted in the free downloadable Viewranger app. We often make walks in the area ourselves, guests are welcome to join us.

CYCLING

Mountain bikes can be rented at the reception for 15 euros per day. The area is particularly suitable for cross-country through the surrounding valleys. There are also many great destinations that are considerably closer by bicycle than by car. There are countless country roads through the woods and along the fields. There is a beautiful route through the nature reserve to the beautiful village of Hollókö in the west and through the forests in the north to the town of Széchény. To the southeast you drive through the ruins of the Samson castle to the Buddhist stupa, and in the east you can go through the forest to the monastery of Szentküt. One drawback: when it has rained, some trails are too muddy.

Given the space and tranquility of the region it’s quite extraordinary how many restaurants and inns you can reach by bike from Bedepuszta Village Retreat. No matter in what direction you go, there’s always a nice destination with good opportunities to drink or eat something.

The area around Bedepuszta is also good challenge on the race bike.  In particular a tour from Bedepuszta to the top of the second highest top of the Mátra. The roads are often quiet, there are some nice steep climbs and the landscape is beautiful and diverse.

YOGA & WELLNESS

Yoga and meditation classes are offered throughout the year. There is also a gyrotonics practice in the village and massages can be booked too. The wellness consists of a sauna and a jacuzzi. You can reserve this for private use and for a duration of 3 hours for 30 euros.

THE SEASONS

Spring

In April, the birds return and life in the village resumes. The forests are slowly starting to turn green again and the orchards are full of blossom. Temperatures also regularly rise above 20 Celsius. The first swallow is always celebrated with a bottle of bubbles at the Yonderbar.

In May the swimming pool will open again and the trees, the sky and the fields are full of life again. Lying in the hammock you can hear a wide variety of birds singing, from the skylarks to nightingales. Every two weeks, new flowers bloom and the meadows change colour, walking through the village, you will pass from one scent to another: lilacs, jasmine, linden, etc.

In June we can eat from the branches: raspberry, blackcurrant, currant, apricot, morels, cherries and much more , because everywhere in the village there are fruit trees and shrubs. In May and June it is usually already beautiful summer weather. The Yonderbar opens again on weekends and we organize special evenings by the campfire.

Autumn

Autumn usually starts in September with a beautiful Indian Summer that can last until the end of October. It might already be cold at night but during the day the weather is often still beautiful. The swimming pool will be closed on the first of October. The pear and apple trees are full of fruit and the blackberries, sloe, quince and rose hips can also be harvested. At night the bellowing deer sometimes sound very close. The forests are usually still green until mid-October, but from November they turn into a fairytale forest of yellow leaves.

At the beginning of December, most trees drop their leaves and winter knocks at the door with the first frost. The farmers in the area prepare the fields for the winter and everything quiets down, waiting for spring.

Winter

In winter there is little to do in the village. Yet it is a wonderful time. The houses are heated, the sauna can be used and now and then we organize a magical evening in the Yonderbar.

There is always a few weeks of snow in the winter, which makes the landscape breathtaking. Walking through the woods you will almost always encounter deer and foxes. The silence is only occasionally disturbed by a raven or a barking dog in the distance. Winter is a wonderful season for those looking for solitude, and tranquility. We have long stay options to stay in the village for a longer period of time with a significant discount on the price.
